Our final assignment was to create a project which would “incorporate 2D and 3D design, additive and subtractive fabrication processes, electronics design and production, microcontroller interfacing and programming, system integration and packaging.” I wanted to try my hand at creating an electronic consumer product which I could use to inspire my students to integrate electronics into their business ideas. To that end, I created an RGB LED watch. The watch features a ring of 30 2x2mm RGB LED lights, a lithium polymer battery, integrated USB charging circuitry and mini USB port, a 3-way toggle switch for setting the time, and power and charging indicators in the center of its face. I designed and milled a custom 2-sided PCB, designed and 3D printed a custom housing, and laser cut a defuser for the top. The watch operates using an ATtiny84.
